Species Description
The Yellow-legged Tinamou (Crypturellus noctivagus) is a quail-like bird found in regions of and surrounding Brazil. Yellow-legged Tinamous have an interesting breeding strategy in that the male incubates eggs from up to four different females, and he cares for the young until they are ready to be on their own. Yellow-legged Tinamous eat food located on the ground in the form of small plants, invertebrates, seeds and roots. They are about one foot long and live in wooded tropical and subtropical habitats. Because of increased habitat destruction, this species is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
