Species Description
The Scaled Pigeon is a large, tropical pigeon found in the semi-open woodlands of southern Mexico down to northern South America. It is a solitary bird, considered common but rarely seen because of its wary nature. It forages in the trees for fruits and seeds, sometimes letting food items drop to the ground before descending to eat. The Scaled Pigeon is part of a subset of pigeons that is generally characterized by a scaly appearance of the breast feathers.
