Species Description
The Roseate Spoonbill is the only pink species of spoonbill. Like Flamingos, the Roseate Spoonbill gets its color from the crustaceans it eats. Spoonbills have distinctive spatulate bills which they sweep from side to side in the water. When they touch a small fish, insect or crustacean the bill snaps shut and the prey is caught. Spoonbills will often hunt cooperatively, advancing in a line through the water. The Roseate Spoonbill is found in the South and Central America as well as the southern coast of the United States.
