Species Description
The African Darter (also known as the Snakebird) is found in Sub-Saharan Africa and is native to both fresh and salt water habitats. The African Darter's feathers are not waterproof like many other birds', and this causes the bird to become weighed down. The African Darter's diving capabilities are much enhanced by this feature. The African Darter reaches maturity at two years of age and can live for up to nine years.
