Species Description
The Royal Tern is comprised of two subspecies, one of which is found along the southern Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the United States into Mexico and the Caribbean and the other is found along Africa's west coast. This is the second largest Tern species in the world, and is distinguished by its yellow bill and black head (which fades during the winter). A seabird, the Royal Tern dives for fish and males will offer their catch to potential mates.
