The Nicobar Pigeon is a large pigeon measuring over one foot long that is found on assorted islands in the Indian Ocean. The pigeons travel in flocks and fly in columns or single-file order. White patches on their tails help to orient the long line of fliers in the air. They feed on seeds and fruits mostly, and are not afraid to inhabit areas where humans reside. The Nicobar pigeons are listed as Near Threatened and are hunted as a food source. They are also hunter for their gizzard stones which are used in jewelry.
