Species Description
The Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus), is bird of prey that can grow to two feet long with as large as a four foot wingspan. The Peregrine is the most widespread bird of prey, ranging from the arctic tundra to the tropical regions. It is sexually dimorphic with the females being larger than the males, and it breeds mainly on coastlines and sometimes in cities. Peregrines can live up to 15 years in the wild, and they feed on medium-sized birds like doves and pigeons. Peregrine falcons are said to be the fastest animal on the planet, reaching speeds of up to 242 miles per hour during dives which are called stoops.
