Species Description
The Little Penguin, also known as the Fairy Penguin or Blue Penguin, is the smallest species of penguin. Known as the Korora by the Maori, the Little Penguin lives on sandy coasts and beaches of southern Australia and New Zealand. It is the most nocturnal of penguins, spending its days in burrows and diving for fish and squid at night. The Little Penguin captures its prey by circling a school of fish, then diving into the middle and grabbing a fish on its way through; dives last approximately 25 seconds, and usually do not go deeper than five meters below the surface.
