Species Description
The Rufescent Tiger Heron is a swamp dweller found throughout Central and South America. It wades along riverbanks in areas near dense undergrowth, hunting for fish by standing still and waiting for prey to come close before lunging forward and capturing the fish with its long, sharp bill. The Rufescent Tiger Heron is identifiable by its chestnut-colored head, neck and chest, with white stripes running along the chest.
