Species Description
The Spectacled Owl is a large tropical owl, characterized by its white “spectacles” within its brown face parts. Like most owls, it is nocturnal, and it lives in the mature rainforests and woodlands of south Mexico down to northern Argentina along central and eastern South America. The Spectacled Owl is a perch hunter, preying upon large insects (which it also snatches from the foliage), birds (including smaller owls) and mammals (up to possums in size).
