Species Description
The Feline Owlet-Nightjar lives in the tropical/sub-tropical montanes of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. It is an insectivore, with beetles making up a large part of the diet. The Feline Owlet-Nightjar possess rounded wings and a tiny bill that can open extraordinarily wide; these features aid this highly aerial bird in hawking for insects during its short flights through the forest. The Feline Owlet-Nightjar gets its name from the long whiskers on either side of the beak and, while its large eyes and skull shape give it the appearance of a small owl, it is believed to be more closely related to the swifts and hummingbirds.
