Species Description
Red-tailed Tropicbirds (Phaethon rubricauda) are distinguished by their very long red-tail feathers which stand out from their generally white plumage. They are small, tern-like birds and spend most of their time at sea, only coming ashore to breed. While they are relatively rare they are widely distributed in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Red-tailed Tropicbirds dive into the ocean to feed on fish and squid.
