Species Description
D’Arnaud’s Barbet (Trachyphonus darnaudii) is also referred to as an African Barbet. D’Arnaud’s Barbet is native to Eastern Africa. D’Arnaud’s Barbet is a very versatile bird; it is comfortable both on land and in trees. It feeds mainly on fruits and nuts and has distinct, short bristles under its beak. An interesting aspect of the Barbet’s habitat is that it burrows a tunnel into the ground, and one can find its nest there. D’Arnaud’s Barbet also employs a particular mating dance in which the male and female face each other and twitch or move quickly in various directions.
