Species Description
The Crane Hawk (Geranospiza nigra) is native to humid forests and open woodlands, and they are almost always near some source of water, including marshes and swamps. Crane Hawks extend south through Central America and into South America west of the Andes. Their population is quite extensive, having upwards to 5 million members, and their breeding range is over 14 million square kilometers. They are about twenty inches long and have a wing span of over three and a half feet long. Crane Hawks prey on lizards, frogs, mice, and baby birds, and they do not migrate.
