Species Description
The Northern Saw-whet Owl (Aegolius acadicus) is a tiny Owl that is common to Northern America. It is only 7 inches tall at maturity and has a wingspan of 17 inches. Its chest is barred with dark brown and fawn stripes and it has smaller stripes surrounding it’s grey face and large eyes. The Northern Saw-whet has a distinctive call that is similar to a Saw being sharpened. They are nocturnal hunters and use their exceptional eyesight and hearing to swoop down on small rodents from their perches.
