Species Description
The Northern Pygmy-owl (Glaucidium gnoma), is found in North and Central America in habitats ranging from temperate and tropical forests to savannahs and wetlands. It is a small species, only 6 inches long. They typically nest in tree hollows, sometimes occupying old woodpecker holes. Females will lay 2-6 eggs which they incubate constantly while the male hunts for prey. The male will provide food for himself, the female and the young. Their diet consists of a mixture of vertebrates and invertebrates (mammals, birds and large insects).
