Species Description
The Southern Skua, also known as the Brown Skua and the Antarctic Skua, breeds in the Southern hemisphere off the coast of Antarctica and the Antarctic region. The Southern Skua population is anticipated to remain relatively stable and its conservation status is, therefore, considered of Least Concern. It is a seabird and feeds primarily on fish, small aquatic mammals, eggs and carrion. The taxonomy of this particular type of bird is relatively complex, and a number of birds may fall into under the heading of Southern Skua.
