Species Description
The Sooty Tern is a marine bird which reaches a little over one foot in length. The Sooty Tern lives in tropical oceans and rarely comes to shore except to breed. It usually lays one to three eggs on a rocky shore. The Sooty Tern can stay out to sea for years at a time. The average lifespan of the tern is about 32 years. The Sooty Tern is also known as the Wideawake Tern because of its incessant calls.
