Species Description
Though mostly a terrestrial bird the Southern or Crested Screamer, (Chauna torquata), is an excellent swimmer and will build its nest on platforms of aquatic plants near a body of water. Southern screamers mate for life and both parents take turns incubating the clutch. During the nonbreeding season these birds gather in flocks to feed in open grasslands. It is non-migratory but a capable flier. The Southern Screamer can be found in Peru, northern Bolivia, Paraguay, southern Brazil, Uruguay and northern Argentina.
